Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Drop Home Opener to Ithaca

Seniors Kiera Taussig and Kara Hurley scored two goals apiece, but it was not enough as the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team fell to Ithaca 16-6 in their home opener Sunday afternoon at North Country Field.

The Saints were led by Taussig and Hurley while Ashley Norris and Greta Massey each contributed one goal. Hurley also led the team with two caused turnovers. Kayla Schmalz picked up three ground balls, while Massey, Tori Smith, and Emma Jewett each grabbed two.

The Saints nearly matched the Bombers goal-for-goal in the first half as Hurley scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Rachel Boghosian at the 17:21 mark to tie the game 3-3. The Bombers then scored five unanswered goals including a man up advantage goal from Bailey Herr with just under 13 minutes to play. Taussig scored her two unassisted goals early in the second half, but the Saints were unable to regain momentum, as Ithaca would score another five unanswered goals to close the game.

St. Lawrence edged Ithaca winning 13 draw controls and picking up 15 ground balls, to the Bombers 11 and 10, respectively.

Cricket Wemyss and Olga Lukas combined to make seven saves for the Saints, while Emily Ross and Kimberly Presuto of Ithaca combined for eight.

Ithaca was led by Ally Runyon with seven goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Morgan Racicot, Allison Panara, Olivia Oppenheim and Bailey Herr each added two goals for the Bombers.

Ithaca advances to 2-0, while St. Lawrence falls to 0-2 on the season.

The Saints will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on SUNY Canton at 4:15 p.m. at North Country Field.
