Saints Fall to Western Connecticut in Florida

The St. Lawrence baseball team fell 19-8 to Western Connecticut State on Monday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. Western Connecticut State outhit the Saints 22-13, including eight hits for extra bases, in the win.

St. Lawrence, now 1-3 on the season, was led by seniors Adam Reichel and Mic Regan, as the two factored into eight of the team's nine runs. Reichel finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored while Regan went 3-for-5 with four RBI.

The Saints rallied for six runs in the final two innings but the Colonials had built too great a lead, after scoring a combined 13 runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

Adam Reichel's double in the top of the third drove in Evan O'Keeffe to tie the game at 1-1 and Reichel scored an unearned run in the sixth after first-year Brendon Frank reached on an error by the Colonials shortstop to keep the inning alive to cut the deficit to 8-2 at the time.

In the eighth inning, with Western Connecticut leading 18-2, Regan tripled to plate two more St. Lawrence runs, driving in Devin Robon and Reichel for an 18-4 game.

The Saints scored four runs on four hits in the ninth inning to push to the eventual 19-8 margin. O'Keeffe led off the inning with a single and came around to score on an RBI single by Beau Yaremko. Adam Reichel followed with a walk and Tyler Guido recorded a pinch-hit single to load the bases for Regan. His two-RBI single made it 19-7 and Guido closed out the scoring with an unearned run on passed ball.

Sophomore starter Evan Reichel took the loss on the mound for the Saints. He went four and one-third innings and allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two strikeouts. Will Fellows, Matt Phelan, Cal Perry, Robert Gates and Charlie Pacilio all made appearances in relief.

The Saints will take Tuesday off before finishing their Florida slate on Wednesday morning against Plymouth State University at 9 a.m.
