Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Black Scores in OT; Clarkson Tops Saints, 2-1

Clarkson's Courtney Black scored her second goal of the season, with a header off the restart, just minutes into the second overtime to lift the Golden Knights to a 2-1 win over the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team, Tuesday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field. The win marked the first time the Golden Knights have defeated St. Lawrence since 1997.

The Saints struck first as Hannah Merriam tipped Katie Clemmer a pass just inside the 18 yard box, Clemmer then lofted a shot to the top right hand corner, out of Elyse Green's reach.

Clarkson's leading goal scorer Camryn Careccia tied the game in the 60th minute of play with a lengthy shot off the hands of Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen.

In the 102nd minute, Alicia Bushey took the kick on the restart, while Black ran in the right side of the goal and quickly headed the ball past Allen for the win.

"I thought we came out with quite a bit of energy and it certainly showed in the first half," said head coach Franco Bari. "Clarkson played a very smart in the second half and unfortunately for us, capitalized on our mistake. Although we had good momentum in the overtime, it only takes one opportunity and Clarkson took advantage of their moment. Now we'll shift our attention to William Smith and our senior day."

Katie Stames led the Scarlet and Brown with three shots on goal as St. Lawrence outshot the Golden Knights 26-10 and held a 10-3 shots on goal advantage.

Green recorded nine saves for the win and Allen made one save for the Saints. Clarkson moved to 8-5-3 on the season and 4-3-1 in Liberty League play, while the Saints fell to 10-5 and 5-3.

Heading into the final weekend of conference play, the Saints currently hold second place in the league standings with 15 points.

St. Lawrence will host William Smith on Saturday, Oct. 28th for the last regular season game. Before the game, the Saints will honor the class of 2018. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
