Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Fall to No. 4 William Smith in Regular Season Finale

First year Katie Clemmer scored her fourth goal of the season and the Saints lone goal as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell to fourth-ranked William Smith 2-1 in their regular season finale on senior day, Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

William Smith struck first with a series of rebounded shots on goal. Megan Barwick capitalized on the third rebound to lift the Herons up 1-0.

Clemmer beat a William Smith defender and lofted a ball outside of the 18-yard box, which bounced off the crossbar and into the back of the net to tie the score 1-1.

Sarah Olick-Sutphen notched the game winner for the Herons with about eight minutes to play in regulation. Sheila McQuillen fed Olick-Sutphen a pass for a breakaway goal to give William Smith the final lead.

"The team fought hard today and left everything on the field," said head coach Franco Bari. "Sam Allen was incredible between the pipes and our team defense held strong. While we created limited opportunities, we were dangerous at times. Kudos to William Smith, they have a very good team."

Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen made a season-high 11 saves, while Veronica Romines recorded three for William Smith. The Heron's outshot St. Lawrence 22-5 and held a 13-4 shots on goal advantage.

Before today's contest the Scarlet and Brown honored the six members of the class of 2018: Kaleigh White, Katie Stames, Rachel Muskin, Hannah Merriam, Samantha Taillon and Kelly Mahoney.

The Saints concluded the regular season 10-6 overall and 5-4 in Liberty League play, while the William Smith finished its regular season 15-1 and undefeated in conference play at 9-0.

St. Lawrence will host RPI in a Liberty League first-round game on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
