Bayreuther Earns All America Honors

Gavin Bayreuther is a 2016 hockey All America
April 8: St. Lawrence University junior defenseman Gavin Bayreuther has been named a 2015-16 All America by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Bayreuther, the first defenseman to lead the Saint program in scoring in a single season, was named to the second team East along with Yale senior Rob O'Gara. He was one of five juniors to make the East teams, joining Yale goalie Alex Long, Quinnipiac forward Sam Anas, Boston College goalie Thatcher Demko and Boston College forward Ryan Fitzgerald.

He becomes the 35th Saint player to earn All America honors and the eighth to earn those honors as a junior. Arlie Parker, Pat Presley, and Hank Lammens are the other defensemen in that category. The most recent to earn All America honors as a junior was forward Greg Carey, a two-time All America and 2014 Hobey Hat Trick finalist.

Bayreuther scored 12 goals and assisted on 17 others to lead a balanced Saint attack with 29 points. He scored three game-winning goals and was plus-six for the season. He was also second on the team in shots on goal.

One of two defensemen in the top 15 among all ECAC players in scoring overall, he led all ECAC blueliners in goals with 12. He was seventh nationally in points per game among all defensemen nationally and second in goals scored by defensemen. He will enter his senior season with 27 goals and 55 assists for 82 points which is tied for sixth on the Saint all-time point list for defensemen.
