RIT Sweeps Saints

Late-inning rallies help the RIT softball team to a sweep of St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout win in game one and a 5-2 come-from-behind win in game two. The Saints, now 14-19 overall and 3-7 in Liberty League games, will conclude their conference schedule against Rochester tomorrow afternoon.

Emma Reakes led St. Lawrence with two hits in the nightcap, while Mylea Mann and Kelsey Murphy each recorded an RBI in the loss.

Game one between the Tigers and the Saints was a classic pitcher's duel, as the teams' combined for just 10 hits and the game was scoreless into the sixth inning, but the Tigers put three across in the bottom of the frame to seal the win.

Allie Courtwright was the pitcher of record in the first game, throwing five and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Hannah Sears pitched a third of an inning in relief and struck out the only batter she faced to get the Saints out of the sixth.

The Saints finished with four hits in game one: one each for Mann, Carly Dziekan, Jordan Sheridan and Jacqueline Dufour.

In the second game, the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on three hits and two walks.

Kylee Knight led off the game with a base on balls and advanced to second during Elle Gray's at bat, and then an RBI single up the middle by Mann brought her around to score for the Saints first run.

Reakes followed with a single up the middle and Jacqueline Dufour worked a walk to load the bases with two outs. Kelsey Murphy hit another single up the middle for St. Lawrence, driving in Mann as the team's second and final run of the afternoon.

RIT cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the third and then scored four runs in the fifth to seal the win and the sweep.

Starter Emma Gailey pitched six innings and allowed five runs on six hits in the loss.
