Senior Abigail Owens and junior Kiera Taussig scored three goals each leading the St. Lawrence University Women's Lacrosse team to a 17-7 victory over Vassar College on a sunny Friday afternoon on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.
The Saints (7-6 overall, 3-1 Liberty League) started fast with the first three goals of the game as Taussig, Caroline Bailey and Julia Mitiguy each scored in the first 13 minutes to put St. Lawrence up 3-0.
After Vassar (5-5, 1-3) got on the board at the 14:41 mark, the Saints rattled off four more goals to take a 7-1 lead. Kara Hurley and Kayla Schmalz scored in the run as Owens notched two of her three goals on the day in the four-goal streak.
The Brewers responded with three of the next four goals to trim the lead to 8-4 as Taussig scored her second goal of the game in the middle of the Vassar run.
Taussig finished off her first-half hat trick late in the period and the Saints went into the break with a 9-4 lead.
In the second half, Chloe Knapp scored twice in the first nine minutes of the period with a Vassar goal sandwiched in between as the Saints built an 11-5 lead.
Olivia Slade and Owens scored consecutive goals in a span of two minutes to push the St. Lawrence advantage to 13-5 before Vassar stopped the run with a goal at 12:47.
The Saints finished the game with four of the final five goals as Ashley Norris, Bailey, Allie Cornell-Roberts and Michaela Maybee each scored for the Saints to cap the win.
Owens led the Saints with four points on three goals and an assist while Taussig recorded three points with her hat trick. Bailey finished with two goals and an assist and Knapp added two goals for the Saints.
Schmalz, Nicole Adee and Emma Garfield had three caused turnovers each while Taussig led the Saints with four draw controls and Schmalz added three.
Olga Lukas made three saves for her sixth win of the year and Cricket Wemyss added a pair of saves playing the final 12:47 of the contest.
The Saints will recognize their seven seniors prior to the start of Saturday's 3 pm game against Bard.
