Women’s Lacrosse Moves Back to .500 with Florida Win

Caroline Bailey scored four goals and added two assists for a team-leading six points leading the St. Lawrence University Women's Lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over Birmingham Southern Sunday evening at GT Bray Park in Bradenton, Florida.

The win for the Saints (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak to a pair of teams listed in the national rankings and was the first game of a three-game trip to Florida.

St. Lawrence and Birmingham Southern (7-3) traded goals in the early part of the first half with Kiera Taussig and Abigail Owens each scoring for the Saints to even the score at 2-2 in the first seven minutes of action.

The Panthers took a 3-2 lead at the 19:04 mark of the period before St. Lawrence captured the momentum with six of the next seven goals to take an 8-4 lead. Bailey scored three times in the run while Greta Massey, Ashley Norris and Chloe Knapp added single goals with Bailey, Norris and Hayden Stein handing out assists.

Each team scored one more goal before the end of the first half and the Saints held a 9-5 lead at the break as Alexandra LaMotte scored with seven seconds left before halftime for St. Lawrence.

Birmingham Southern scored early in the second half to trim the St. Lawrence lead to 9-6 but Bailey scored her fourth of the game to spark a nine-goal run for the Saints giving the team a commanding 18-6 lead.

Stein, Massey, Taussig, Julia Mitiguy, Olivia Slade and Owens scored single goals in the run. Knapp scored twice and also assisted on two goals while Bailey, Stein and Rachel Boghosian each handing out one assist each for the Saints.

Olga Lukas and Cricket Wemyss split time in the St. Lawrence goal with Lukas picking up her first career win for St. Lawrence.

The Saints will face SUNY Fredonia Tuesday morning and wrap up the Florida trip at 7 pm Wednesday against Allegheny College. Both game will be at GT Bray Park in Bradenton.
