Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sophomores Lead Saints in Season-Opening Win

Sophomores Katie Stames and Kaleigh White each tallied first-half goals as the Saints women's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 2-0 victory at Oswego on Tuesday night. Senior Kelsey West made three saves en route to her 17th career shutout.

Stames, who led the Saints in points as a first-year a season ago, scored the Saints first goal in the 10th minute when she buried a rebound from a blocked shot in front for the eventual game winner.

White, another top-scorer for the Saints in 2014 that led the team in goals, added the second St. Lawrence tally in the 28th minute.  Senior Samantha Rock played the ball through the Lakers defense for the speedy White who beat Oswego goalkeeper Melissa Siegfried for the eighth goal of her career.

"It was a good start to the season," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "While we showed strong moments of attacking combinations as well as defending we need to work on consistency. The energy was great and I was pleased with our performance."

The Saints will host the North Country Classic on Sandy MacAllaster Field this weekend, playing Plattsburgh State in Saturday at 3 p.m. and Marywood University on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
