Saints 10-0 Run Blitzes Geneseo

Mar. 24: The Saint trio of Tommy Hovey, Conor Healey and Jeremy Vautour combined for a dozen goals and St. Lawrence University's men's lacrosse team shook off a 2-0 start by Geneseo with ten straight goals en route a 18-6 NCAA Division III lacrosse victory over the Blue Knights in a game played at the Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday.

The Saints won their second straight and pulled even at 4-4 on the season while Geneseo is 4-2 after Tuesday's loss. SLU will host Union on Saturday in a Liberty League game. Hovey scored six goals, Healey had four goals and two assists and Vautour two goals and three assists to pace the Saint attack.

While the Saints gave up the game's first two goals, goaltender Andrew Butturini and the Saint defense shut the Knights down the rest of the way in the first half and SLU scored the next 10 goals in the game. Hovey had three goals and Healey had two goals and an assist in the first-half run. The Saints had a 12-2 lead early in the third period and led 14-4 after three.

Vautour, Hovey, Charlie Jennings and Healey all scored to complete the Saint scoring run before Geneseo's Steve Aziz stopped the Saint goal storm with a man-up score at 9:17 of the third. Hovey and Healey then scored to make it 14-4 after three.

 Butturini made nine saves on 15 shots in 45 minutes for the win while Nick Ford stopped three of five shots in the final period. Alex Howe had six saves for Geneseo. Caleb Kane had three ground balls and caused two turnovers for the Saint defense while Kelsey Reed was seven for 11 and Alex Dietsch seven for 12 on faceoffs.

The Saints outshot Geneseo 40-35 and had a 36-30 edge in ground balls. SLU went seven for eight in man-up opportunities and was successful on 13 of 18 clears.
