Conor Healey had three goals and three assists, but it wasn't enough as Springfield College rode a 5-2 scoring advantage in the first period to an eventual 15-11 win over St. Lawrence in a NCAA Division III lacrosse game played in Florida on Wednesday.
The Saints, now 2-4 overall, will try to snap a four-game losing skid when they play at Skidmore on Saturday in the Liberty League season opener.
Dylan Sheehan scored five goals and had two assists to lead Springfield and blunted a Saint comeback in the third period as the Saints battled to within two on a goal by
Jeremy Vautour at 5:10 of the third, but Sheehan scored back-to-back to make it 11-7. The Saints were within three at 12-9 after goals by Healey and
Tommy Hovey, but Springfield went on another run with two from Tony Laguerre and another from Sheehan to make it 15-9 before
Luke DiLisio and Hovey scored the final two goals of the game.
Vautour, Hovey and DiLisio had two goals each for the Saints while Wil Burchenal and
Andrew Jarrett had one each.
Healey had six ground balls to go with his big day offensively while
Nick Ford had two saves on eight shots and
Andrew Butturini made six stops on 15 shots in net. Kevin Ostram had 11 saves for Springfield.
The Saints had a 51-40 edge in shots and captured 23 ground balls to 11 for Springfield. Springfield was 17 of 29 on faceoffs.eaHea
