Vassar capitalized on a defensive miscue by the No. 16 Saints in the second minute and converted on its first shot of the game in Friday's Liberty League match in Poughkeepsie and managed to keep St. Lawrence off the board en route to a 1-0 win.

It is the earliest goal allowed by the Saints since Stevens scored 2:18 into the season opener at the Lotto Classic tournament in 2013. With the loss, St. Lawrence is now 7-2-2 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League games, while the Brewers improve to 5-2-2 and 1-0 in the conference.

One minute at 44 seconds into the game Tom Wiechert collected a cross from Alex Gonzales on the far side of the six-yard box and beat senior goalkeeper Ryan Roethel for the game winner.

St. Lawrence had consistent offensive pressure following the Vassar goal, outshooting the Brewers 17-7 with an 8-4 edge in shots on goal and 7-1 advantage in corners, but couldn't solve keeper Sebastien Lasseur who made eight saves in the match including one as time expired at the near post on first-year student Austin Dilts.

Roethel finished with three saves and Noah Bunton, Jonathan Mendoza and Chandler Short each record two shots on goal for the Scarlet and Brown.

The team will look for a split on its weekend road trip with a 2 p.m. match at Bard in Annadale-on-Hudson, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.
