Union Tops Saints, 89-67

Jan. 3: St. Lawrence University senior captain Brady Condlin scored 23 points and recorded seven rebounds, but Union College rode the hot hand of Terell Winney to an 89-67 league win in Schenectady, NY on Saturday afternoon.

Winney had a game-high 24 points for the Dutchmen, who improved to 7-4 (1-1) after the team shot 55% from the floor and 56% from behind the arc (10-of-18).  William Hython had 19 points, while Kevin Weckworth had a career-high 11 assists for Union.  St. Lawrence (6-4, 1-1) struggled from the floor throughout the game, especially from behind the arc with a 3-for-20 mark which allowed Union to pull away.

Union sprinted out to a big 19-1 lead in the opening 4:47 of the half, seizing control from the get-go behind a three from Winney.  Despite trailing by the big margin, St. Lawrence chipped away and got the deficit to 13 at halftime.  Though a jumper by Willie Zachery and a pair of free throws by Condlin got St. Lawrence within nine early in the second half, Union would not allow the visitors to get any closer, slowly pulling away en route to the impressive win.

Junior transfer Kaleb Faison, who played in the first two games of his St. Lawrence career this weekend, had six points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Saints, who will be in action again next Friday, January 9 at RIT.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
