Jan. 24: St. Lawrence University senior captain
Brady Condlin scored a game-high 20 points, while
Kyle Kobis had 19 points including 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arc to lead the men's basketball team to a 66-56 Liberty League win at Bard on Saturday in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
Â
The victory keeps St. Lawrence in position to vie for a playoff spot at 4-4 in the conference and 9-7 overall. Bard, which was led by DeVahnte Mosley's 12 points, falls to 3-5 in the league and 8-9 overall.
Â
Leondre Simmon hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds including seven offensive boards, while Condlin added a pair of blocks and a team-high three steals. St. Lawrence got the win despite shooting 37% to Bard's 42%, much in part because of 13 Raptor turnovers.
Â
A back-and-forth first half saw St. Lawrence own the largest lead of six at 8-2, but Bard would rally and take a 26-25 lead on a pair of free throws from Mosley with 3:20 left in the half. A jumper by Zachery and a lay-up by
Kyle Edwards would allow the visitors to take a 29-26 advantage into halftime as Bard was held without a point in that final stretch following the Mosley free throws.
Â
Neither team was able to gain separation in the second half either, with both squads owning leads throughout the period. Bard went up 47-46 on a layup by Siondueh Burnette, only to see Condlin answer with a three pointer for a 49-47 lead with 7:49 to go. With the game tied at 49-49, Kobis, who nailed a key three in the win over Vassar, delivered a triple as the shot clock expired to go up 52-49. That shot began a key 13-2 run that put the game away for the Scarlet and Brown, as Edwards and Simmon each made big buckets to help build a 62-51 lead with under a minute remaining en route to the key conference win.
Â
St. Lawrence will look to build on the weekend sweep on Tuesday night, January 27, as the Saints host Clarkson University in Burkman Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm between the two rivals.
