Condlin Reaches Milestone, Saints Fall in Home Opener

Dec. 2: St. Lawrence University senior captain Brady Condlin became the 25th player in Saints men's basketball history to record 1,000 career points thanks to a 17-point outing against Plattsburgh State on Tuesday night in the Burkman Gymnasium.  However, the visiting Cardinals used 13 three pointers to push past the Scarlet and Brown in the home opener, 71-49.

Plattsburgh State improved to 4-1 on the season after shooting 48% from behind the arc and owning a 41-25 rebounding advantage in the game.  The Saints fall to 2-3, as they were unable to match Plattsburgh's attack from the perimeter as the home team was 4-of-20 (20%) from three.  Condlin led all scorers while Kyle Kobis added 16 points.  Ezra Hodgson finished with a team-high 14 points for the Cardinals, while Edward Correa added 11.

Plattsburgh owned a 25-10 advantage in points off the bench, while St. Lawrence had a 9-2 edge in steals.

The Cardinals came out firing in the opening half, as they used the three to pull out of a 5-2 deficit and take a 16-9 lead midway through the period.  Shamoy McIntosh and Jordan Moody hit back-to-back triples to stretch the visitor advantage to seven.  Condlin would rally St. Lawrence with several strong finishes at the rim, helping to cut the deficit to just one at 22-21 with 5:50 to play in the half.

Xavier Thomas would swing the momentum back to Plattsburgh with two clutch three pointers in the waning minutes of the first half as the lead was back to eight at 30-22 with 2:44 left until intermission.  Though Kobis hit a three for St. Lawrence, Vaugh Dweck's jumper from behind the arc before the first half buzzer made it 33-25 Cardinals at the break.

St. Lawrence would get no closer than six in the second half, as Plattsburgh was able to grow a comfortable cushion thanks to consistent hot-shooting midway through the period.  The Cardinals shot 6-for-12 from three and 11-for-22 from the field in the second half en route to the 71-49 non-conference win.

The Saints will be back in action at home on Friday, December 5 at 6:00pm when they host the 1-4 Ithaca College Bombers.
