Oct. 17: Senior
Mackenzie Collins and junior
Samantha Rock each net a pair of goals; their firsts of the season, as the Saints went on to beat Bard 5-2 in a Liberty League matchup in Annandale-on-Hudson on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Saints improve to 9-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference games. The Raptors fall to 4-10-1, 0-6-0 on the season.
"Although we started off slow, the team progressively built momentum," Head Coach
Franco Bari said. "Fortunately we had an opportunity to make sure we could stay fresh for tomorrow's contest."
Despite the seemingly slow start,
Samantha Rock put the Saints in front early in the 7
th minute with her first goal of the year on a through ball from senior captain
Laura Topf.
But Bard answered in the 13
th minute to even things at 1-1 when Isabel Keddy-Hector played a carom of a wall of Saints following a free kick and sent a high, lofting shot behind Saints goalkeeper
Kelsey West.
Rock answered back for St. Lawrence and regained the lead in the 17
th minute when she collected another through ball, this time from classmate
Emily DePoy, and hit a blast from 25 yards out.
Early in the second half Collins pushed the lead to 4-1 with her first of the season after a
Nyssa LaClair throw into the box. Â She then notched her second in the 66
th minute on a hard shot from 20 yards out. The goal chased Harris out of goal for the Raptors, as she was replaced by Shane Crowley with 19:45 minutes remaining.
St. Lawrence also replaced their starting keeper in West with first-year
Jackie Sovie, who played the final 7:20 of the contest.
The Saints will continue their Liberty League road weekend with a 2 p.m. contest against Vassar in Poughkeepsie on Saturday afternoon. Â
