Mike Gugin was named the Coordinator of Hockey Operations for the men's hockey program in August of 2021.
Gugin most recently was a volunteer assistant coach for the Lake Superior State men's hockey team, where he was directly involved with hockey operations and managing organizational film analysis and breakdown on a day-to-day basis. He was instrumental in managing the team's video databases, creating recruiting videos, and grading players via video study. Gugin was on coaching staff for the 2021 WCHA Championship team that went to the NCAA East Regional Semifinal.
Before his stint with the Lakers, Gugin was a graduate assistant coach at Ohio University with their ACHA Division I men's hockey program and received his Master of Sport Science, Recreation, and Coaching in May of 2019. He also served as an assistant coach/video coach with Lawrence University during the 2017-18 season.
Gugin played his college hockey at Northland College, where he led all first-year defensemen in scoring. He transferred to Aquinas College, where he was team captain for their ACHA Division III hockey program. Gugin graduated from Aquinas with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Sport Management.
