Gunther Cassell has joined the St. Lawrence University swimming and diving staff as a graduate assistant coach for swimming.
Cassell graduated from Pennsylvania State University and was a member of the Nittany Lions' Division I swimming and diving program. He holds the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:56.28) was also a top eight finalist in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Big Ten Conference Championships in 2017. He's ranked as the fourth-fastest all-time performer at Penn State in the 100 breaststroke (53.41) and scored at the Big Ten Championships in each of his first three seasons.
Cassell joins the staff after working at Islanders Aquatics as an assistant swimming coach, where he worked alongside head coach to train middle school and high school competitive swimmers. He also served as a technique specialist for the purpose of stroke and technique improvement and helped collaborate with head coach and other assistant coaches for swim meet lineup recommendations.
The Huntington, New York native, holds a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Park and Tourism Management.
