Tom Ryan

Tom Ryan was named the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach in December 2024. 

A former professional lacrosse player and All-America at Bowdoin College, Ryan has worked with the Saints' men's lacrosse program since 2014 and with the women since 2016. He was named the IMLCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 after helping the men's lacrosse team reach the semifinal round of the NCAA Championship.

Ryan coached professionally as the Head Coach of the Boston Blazers (2008-10) of the NLL and Team USA’s Indoor squad at the 2007 and 2011 World Championships. He was a women's assistant coach at Division I Loyola University of Maryland under Legendary Coach Diane Geppi-Aikens from 1999-2003 reaching the NCAA Semifinals three times. He spent the following year at Towson University with first year head coach, Missy (Holmes) Doherty. Prior to joining the Saints, he was the offensive coordinator at Belmont Abbey College, a Division II school in Belmont, N.C.
 
Ryan had a nine-year professional career, playing for the 2001 World Champion Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League and the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse.  Prior to turning pro, he was an All-America attackman at Bowdoin College where he remains the school’s all-time leading scorer with 315 points.

A native of Canton, N.Y., Ryan earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Bowdoin in psychology in 1993. He earned his Master’s Degree at Connecticut College, where he served as an assistant coach under St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Fran Shields '79.

He amassed 202 points in 95 career professional games, was on Team USA’s Heritage Cup winning team over Canada in 2002. He is a member of the Hall of Fame at both Canton High School and Bowdoin College.
 
In addition to his work with the men's and women's lacrosse programs, Ryan has provided sports psychology seminars and services for various teams in the athletic department. He has taught courses on Leadership in the First-Year Program as well as Leadership in Sport in the Sports Studies and Exercise Science Department.
