Prior to St. Lawrence

Varin was a member of the basketball, field hockey and track and field teams at Rice Memorial High School. She was a team captain and earned the Outstanding Performance in Girls Basketball Award, the Outstanding Female Athlete Award, Second-Team All-State, and Metro Division Coaches First-Team All-League honors. Varin was also a high honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Female Excellence in Science Award and the Society of Women Engineers Award.
