Prior to St. Lawrence

Garfield was a captain of both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Medfield, earning Team MVP honors during the outdoor season in both his junior and senior year. He was the Tri-Valley League MVP in outdoor track as a senior and earned All-State honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons. A member of the National Honor Society, Garfield qualified for Divisional meets from his sophomore through senior seasons, and was a New England Championship qualifier in both indoor and outdoor track as a senior.
