Prior to St. Lawrence

Schmeizer was the captain of his cross country and track teams at Ocean City, and he was a two-time First-Team All-League competitor in cross country. He earned First-Team XC Press Area All-Star honors as a senior, and his team qualified for the state championship four times, and was undefeated in dual meets in his four years as a varsity runner. He also qualified for states in the 1,600-meter run as a senior and the AAU Junior Olympic Nationals in the 1,500. He also excelled in the classroom, graduating with honors.
