Kate Curran Howard, a former Penn State cross country and track and field athlete, joined the Saint staff as head women's track and field coach and assistant men's and women's cross country coach in the fall of 2008, and was promoted to head women's cross country coach prior to the 2016 season.
She served as president of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference for two terms and was the Atlantic Regional representative to the NCAA Cross Country and Track and Field Committee from 2012-2016.
Her teams have finished in the top-15 of the Deb Vercauteren Program of the Year rankings six times as selected by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with three top-five finishes.Â
Under her leadership, the Saints have won 13 Liberty League titles (seven indoor, four outdoor, two cross country) and she has earned Liberty League Coach of the Year Honors 13 times. She was named USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2014, and again for the indoor season in 2015.Â
Through the 2019-20 season, she has coached 41 Liberty League major award winners and produced 40 All-Americas, including three two-time national champions (Wendy Pavlus '11, Aly Pirinelli '10 and Divya Biswal '15). Pavlus was named USTFCCCA National Track Athlete of the Year in 2011 and Biswal earned USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year in 2015.
