Biography

2012:  Laird earned All-America honors for the second time in his four-year career at St. Lawrence as he anchored one of the top defenses in the country.  The Monroe, NY native helped the Saints finish the season ranked 11th in the nation in goals against average (.57) and 12th in shutout percentage (.60).  A Liberty League first team selection and ECAC All-Star, he also chipped in offensively scoring three goals, including a game-winner against RIT, and assisting on two others during the 2012 season.   A major in mathematics, Alex is the treasurer of SLU Circle K and a peer tutor.

2011: The Liberty League and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All Star selection, Alex again had an outstanding season in the middle of the Saint defensive backfield.  The NSCAA National All-American selection was a key player in the record-setting defense. He also continued to contribute on the offensive end, moving up to score two goals and assist on two others. He scored his seventh career game-winner in a 4-0 win over Rochester and also had a goal in a 3-0 win over Hobart in a key Liberty League game.  He earned Dean's List honors in the spring of 2012.

2010: Alex Laird was a significant contributor at both ends of the field for the Saints, helping anchor a defense which allowed just 0.65 goals per game and adding four goals and an assist on the offensive end. Three of his four goals were game winners.He scored the game winner in game one, a 2-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan and also had the game winner in games against North Country rivals Potsdam and Clarkson. He was Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 6 and Offensive Player of the Week Oct. 4.

2009: Alex was a candidate for Liberty League Rookie of the Year and had an outstanding freshman season, stepping into the center back spot and contributing both offensively and defensively. A big factor on restarts and in front of the net, he scored four goals and assisted on another in 2009., He scored  his first collegiate goal in his first college game, a 3-1 win over Keene and added goals in wins over Elmira, Houghton and Clarkson. He scored the game winner at Houghton

At Monroe Woodbury:  A three-sport standout, Alex was a member of the Section 9 finalists as a senior and captained the team. He was a two-time scholar-athlete award winner in soccer and was a first team Section 9 all star as a senior. He was team MVP in the Nationals at Virginia Beach. A member of the National Honor Society, he was also basketball MVP as a senior and a member of the Section 9 championship tennis team as a freshman.
