Prior to St. Lawrence
An All-America selection in lacrosse, van Leer helped lead his team to three state championships and was named the MetroWest Daily News Lacrosse Athlete of the Year... A three-sport athlete, van Leer also excelled on the indoor track and on the football field... He was named the DCL Large League Defensive Player of the Year and was a Boston Globe, Boston Herald and Metrowest All-Scholastic selection. In indoor track, he posted a third-place finish in the 300-meter run at the Massachusetts State Championships and was eighth in the sprint medley relay at New Balance Nationals...van Leer was also an honor roll student.
