Brent Brekke was named the Charles W. Appleton II Men's Hockey Coach on May 25, 2019. He is the 15th head coach in program history. Prior to his arrival at St. Lawrence, Brekke has served as an associate head coach and assistant coach at the Division I level for the past twenty years.

He earned his first career win as a head coach in his second game behind the bench, as the Saints edged Mercyhurst, 3-2, on Saturday, October 12 in Erie, Pennsylvania. In his first season, Brekke and the Saints finished with a 4-27-5 overall with wins against the Lakers, Bentley, Union and Harvard.

Brekke’s first season at St. Lawrence was highlighted by the completion of a multi-million-dollar renovation to Appleton Arena, providing the men’s and women’s programs with new locker rooms, team lounges and state-of-the-art athletic training and strength and conditioning facilities. The renovations also enhanced the fan experience with the installation of a video board and ribbon board, the addition of the Legends of Appleton Room above the main concourse as well as new concessions spaces and an updated lobby including the Saints team store.

Brekke spent the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach at Clarkson University where he helped the Golden Knights finish with a record of 26-11-2, win the ECAC Championship, and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Before that he had spent a decade as assistant and then associate head coach at Miami University in Ohio where he helped the RedHawks make back-to-back Frozen Four appearances, six NCAA Tournament appearances, win two regular season conference championships and two playoff conference championships.

Prior to his time at Miami, Brekke spent nine years as an assistant coach at Cornell University helping them to a Frozen Four appearance, four NCAA Tournament appearances and two ECAC Championships.

He is joined by his wife Stacey, and their two children a daughter, Bailee, and a son, Cody.
