Biography
2013-14: Jack earned honorable mention All America honors and nearly matched his record setting stroke average from the previous season finishing the year at 73.35. He was ECAC Golfer of the Month for April and was under 80 in 16 of 17 rounds. He won the Hamilton, Oswego and Palomountain tournaments and was in the top ten in eight of nine tournaments.
2012-13: Jack earned PING Northeast All Region honors and was under consideration for an NCAA berth after a record setting sophomore season in which he won three tournaments and setmarks for low round and low 36. He shot 66 in Arizona in the spring for the low round in program history, one of five rounds in the 60s and shot 68-71-139 to win the Nazareth Tournament and establish the low 36. His 73.27 combined stroke average for the season is a program single season record. He had six top tens in seven starts and became the first Saint player to play in the prestigious Terra Cotta Invitational for top young amateurs in Florida.
2011-12: Jack Whelan joined the Saint team at mid-year after playing for Division I Loyola of Maryland in the first semester. He had a 74.33 stroke average in 12 rounds for Loyola which included a collegiate low of 68 at the Cobra-Puma Invitational. He had a 71.29 average in five rounds for the Saints in the spring, earning team MVP honors. He set the SLU two-round record with a 70-71-141 (-3) finish at the Palomountain Invitational, finishing second. He was also tied for second at the NYU/Manhattanville Invitational.He had a busy and successful summer season in 2012 reaching the Massachusetts Amateur semifinals, finishing seventh in the New England Amateur and winning the Francis Oiumet tournament.
Jack Whelan joins the golf team in the second semester of 2011-12 after transferring from Loyola College in Baltimore. Jack played golf, basketball and baseball and was all league in golf as a sophomore, league MVP and team captain as a junior and senior. He was basketball captain and all league in baseball as a junior and senior.
