Prior to St. Lawrence

Battaglia was an outstanding running back and wrestler at Central Square, earning Second-Team All-State honors in football and finishing second in the state in Division I Class AA in wrestling. He graduated as Central Square's program record holder for average rushing yards in a game (227.5) and was second on the school's all-time rushing list (3,072 yards). He also graduated with program records for career touchdowns, touchdowns in a game and points in a game. He earned a scholarship award from the CNY Chapter of the National Football Foundation, was a member of the National Honor Society and was an honor roll student.
