Coach Niles' Recruiting Territories: New York (Section 1, 9), Connecticut (Public Schools)
Tanner Niles joined the St. Lawrence University football team as a graduate assistant coach in the spring of 2019.
In his first season at St. Lawrence, Niles was part of a staff that more than doubled its win total from the prior season, finishing the 2019 season with a 5-5 record. Niles helped coach a defense that saw statistical improvements in points allowed, total yards allowed, and time of possession. The Saints allowed opposing offenses to convert on just 6-of-19 fourth down conversions and the secondary had 14 interceptions, up from just nine the previous season.
A 2015 graduate of Union College with a degree in economics, Niles played strong safety and outside linebacker, as well as on all four special teams units for the Dutchmen. After graduating, he began a career in finance with positions at Fidelity and Sun Life Financial.
While at Union, he spent a year working with athletes age 12-18 in both one-on-one and group sessions with Top Form Incorporated. He motivated athletes to train, designed daily workout routines and marketed and operated a speed, strength and power camp.
Niles got the coaching bug at Chatham High School, where he helped assist the coaching staff with the weekly offensive game plan in his final two seasons as a player. He was a Third-Team All-State quarterback, led Section II in passing touchdowns, holds seven Chatham football passing records and led his team to four consecutive Class C South Conference championships.
