Prior to St. Lawrence

Tavenner was a four-sport athlete in cross country, football, basketball, and track and field at Adirondack Central High School. Tavenner captained both football and track and field teams and received an honorable mention for All-State Offense/Defense and First-Team All-League. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and high honor roll, while being awarded National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete and NY Section 3 Scholar Athlete honors.
