Prior to St. Lawrence

Murphy played football and lacrosse and was a member of the Alpine ski team at Ridgefield High School. He was an All-FCIAC in football and skiing, an All-State skier, a team captain for both teams and Ridgefield Defensive Player of the Year. He was also an honor roll student for four years.
