Michael Wood

Wood joined the Saints baseball staff in August 2017 and serves as the first base coach, while also working with hitters and infielders. In addition he assists with recruiting and oversees the team social media accounts. 

Born and raised in Seneca Falls, New York, he graduated from Mynderse Academy High School in 2013 where he was a four-year starter in the infield for the varsity baseball team. He was a four-year letter winner and member of the All-Finger Lakes East Team. In addition, he served as team co-captain in his junior and senior seasons and helped the team to a Section V Championship as a senior.  

Wood attended Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York, where he was member of the baseball team and served as a captain as a sophomore. After a successful career at JCC and serving as team captain his sophomore year, Wood earned a degree in Communications. He played two years on a summer collegiate team affiliated with the NYCBL & PGCBL (Capital City Reds, based in Ottawa, Canada.) He then earned a scholarship to attend (Division II) Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.

At Davis and Elkins, Wood started every game as an infielder, primarily at third base, and was team captain his senior year. In between his junior and senior seasons, he played in the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League and also fulfilled internship responsibilities working at the league office, as well as with GMNO Sports Marketing & Management which is owned by the SFCBL founder and Commissioner Vince Farfaglia.

He graduated from Davis & Elkins with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. 

Wood played on several travel teams through the years, primarily from the Victor, Rochester and Buffalo area. Mike played in East Cobb, Georgia on a travel team that was coached by his hitting instructor of four years as well as Rochester’s premier baseball organization owner, Matt Dryer (Diamond Pro Baseball, Rochester, N.Y.). He also played two years in the Dominican Republic, representing two different U.S. teams. Through the years his travel teams brought him all along the east coast from Florida to Maine, as well as Canada.
