THE CAMP STAFF

Kate Howard
  has been the head women’s track and field coach since 2008 and became the head women’s cross country coach in 2016.  Her teams have finished in the top-15 of the Deb Vercauteren Program of the Year rankings six times, including three top-five finishes.  Under her leadership, the Saints have won 12 Liberty League track and field titles and three Cross Country titles.  Coach Howard has earned Liberty League Coach of the Year honors 13 times.  She has coached 42 Liberty League major award winners and 42 All-Americans including three double national champions.  In her tenure as the head cross country coach, the Saints extended their NCAA Championship appearances to 12.

John Newman ’94 M’01
has been part of the Saints’ coaching staff for the last 31 years, with 24 years as the head men’s cross country coach and 18 as the head men’s track and field coach.  He helped lead the men’s cross country program to 21 straight conference titles and nine straight NCAA Championship appearances, including third-place finish in 2010.  Under his leadership Saints track and field teams have won three NYSCTC Championships, two ECAC Championships, and three Liberty League titles.  He has coached 21 All Americans and one national champion during his tenure.  Coach Newman earned Liberty League Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year 12 times and Liberty League Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year three times.

Camp Philosophy: The mission of the St. Lawrence Track & Field/Cross Country Camp is to foster a positive environment for the learning and development of young athletes from the beginner to the advanced, in the events of track & field and the sport of cross country.

Camp Includes:
  • T-shirt and giveaways throughout the week.
  • Complete camp program including individualized technical instruction in track and field events, distance, and cross country training. Note: we aren't able to offer pole vault.
  • Camp staff includes select St. Lawrence University track & field/cross country coaches and student-athletes.
  • Resident campers receive overnight housing while on campus and meals at the University’s Dana Dining Center.
  • 24-hour supervision by camp staff and campus security.

THE CAMP FACILITIES

Campers at the St. Lawrence Track & Field/Cross Country Camp will utilize some of the finest small college athletic facilities in the nation, as well as other facilities on the St. Lawrence Campus.
  • Resident campers will be housed in University dormitories with overnight supervision, and all campers will eat their meals in the University dining halls with feature all-you-can-eat buffets.
  • Campers will train and compete at the Merrick Pinkard Track and Field Complex, a nine lane 400-meter state-of-the-art facility that includes throwing circles and jump areas. The facility was host to the 2003 and 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
  • Cross country runners will train and compete on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course, one of the premiere cross country courses in the country and host to many NCAA regional championships as well as an extensive trail system on University property.
  • Campers will also have use of the Newell Field House, one of the finest indoor track & field facilities in the northeast, which features a 200-meter track.
