Biography

2012:  DeMello was named a first team regional All-American, an ECAC All-Star and was a unanimous first team Liberty League selection, despite his season ending prematurely due to injury.  The Easthampton, MA native led the Saints with 11 goals and an assist, totaling 23 points in 14 games.  He scored two of his goals against Hobart, which moved him into second on the all-time scoring list as he became just the second player in St. Lawrence men's soccer history to reach the century mark in scoring.

2011: A unanimous choice as Liberty League Player of the Year and first-team midfielder, Sam DeMello set a season record for points and carried the Saint offense after three senior forwards were lost to injury. DeMello came within two of matching the season record for goals with 14 and had 10 assists for 38 points,improving the former season high by two. He jumped to a tie for fourth on the Saint all-time scoring list with 79 career points in three seasons.  He scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner in a 3-2 NCAA second round win over Western New England and had three goals and two assists in three NCAA tourney games. He also scored the game winner in a season-opening win over Oneonta and scored all three goals in a 3-2 win over Geneseo. He scored six game-winning goals as a junior and assisted on five others. He had at least one point in 15 of 20 games.  The Easthampton, MA native was named a First Team NSCAA National All-American, a D3Soccer.com All-American and Midfielder of the Year, and an ECAC All-Star and Offensive Player of the Year. 

2010: The honors poured in for Sam DeMello following an outstanding sophomore season. He was a second team National All America, a first team regional All America, 1st team All ECAC and 1st team All Liberty League after leading the Saints in scoring with eight goals and 11 assists for 27 points. He was a four-time Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week and he both led the Saints in goals and assists with his remarkable ball skills. He scored the game winner in a 1-0 win over Houghton and also had the winner in games against RIT, Elmira and in a 1-0 win in overtime at Hamilton. He also assisted on overtime game winners against Vassar and Plattsburgh and on the game winner in the NCAA win against SUNY IT.

2009: A candidate for Liberty League Rookie of the Year and a second-team All Liberty League selection, Sam was the second leader scorer for the Saints as a rookie, scoring seven goals.  He scored his first collegiate goal in his first collegiate game, a 4-2 win over Keene State and had his first collegiate multi-goal game with two against Hobart.

At Williston-Northampton:  Sam played soccer and ice hockey at Williston-Northampton and was soccer captain in 2007 and 2008. Team MVP in 2006,2007 and 2008, he was All League, All State and a WNEPSA All Star in 2007 and 2008 and earned NEPSAC All Star, All New England and All America honors in 2008.
