First-year Kendall Doiron scored in the third period to bring Sunday's exhibition game within one, but the No. 13 Colgate Raiders skated to a 3-1 win over the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team on Sunday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y.

"A very productive day and game for us this early in the season," said head coach Chris Wells. 

Addison Tremel put Colgate on the scoresheet first, as she pulled the puck off the left boards, skated the top of the circle and hit the top corner to put the Raiders up 1-0, just 5:26 into the first period.

Tremel scored her second of the afternoon giving the Raiders a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. Tremel slid into the slot, fired a shot off the shoulder of Saints' goaltender Maja Helge, but she was able to bury the rebound for a short-handed tally.

Helge made 11 of her 15 stops in the first.

The second period back-and-forth battle proved scoreless for both teams.

Kendall Doiron spoiled the Raiders shutout and brought the game back within one for the Saints. After a faceoff win for the Saints, Kennedy Emerson skated into the zone, Doiron collected the loose puck and sent a shot on goal from high in the slot. The puck hit a Colgate defender and took a good bounce over the leg of Farah Walker to make it 2-1.

The Saints pulled Lawrence with 1:15 to play in the third and the Scarlet and Brown peppered Walker, but a turnover at the blue line allowed Madeline Palumbo to cash in on the empty net for the 3-1 final.

"We were able to get a good look at why Colgate will be one of the top teams in our league," Wells added. "They took it to us in every aspect early on. We played better each period with the last 10 minutes being our best. It was a perfect game for us to play heading into our home weekend next week vs. Wisconsin."

Helge and Kassidy Lawrence split time in goal for SLU. Helge made 15 saves, while Lawrence finished with 16. Brooke Davis started for the Raiders and made six saves, while Walker stopped 10 for Colgate.

The Raiders led 34-17 in shots on goal and the Saints led 14-10 in blocked shots. Neither team was able to capitalize on their power play advantages.

St. Lawrence will open the 2026-27 regular season at Appleton Arena, as they host the defending National Champions, No. 1 Wisconsin on September 25 and 26. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
