The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team continued its strong season Friday, downing Bard College 7-0 in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
The win improves them to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League play.
The Saints were dominant from the opening point, sweeping all three doubles matches without dropping a set. The duo of
Molly Jespersen and
Angelica Aksdal-Jansen set the tone at the top of the lineup, blanking Bard's Paige Houghton and Natalie Lagunes 6-0, while
Ariane Karera and
Elisa Iuri performed equally well at No. 2 winning 6-0.
Kate Butler and
Alexandra Fuller rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
The momentum carried into singles, where St. Lawrence, where Aksdal-Jansen continued her winning ways at No. 1, defeating Houghton 6-0, 6-2. Jespersen followed with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 2, and
Maya Stepic was just as convincing at No. 3, also blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
The dominance extended throughout the lineup.
Ellie Fritz,
Sarah Oldland, and
Kate Butler all won in straight sets at the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions respectively, with Butler closing out the sweep by defeating Lisa Kyrtoka 6-0, 6-3.
St. Lawrence now readies to return to the court Saturday, April 4 when they play Vassar at 2 p.m.
