The St. Lawrence University tennis team rolled to a 7-0 shutout of William Smith on Sunday afternoon at the Newell Field House in Canton, N.Y., improving to 11-4 on the season. The Herons dropped to 6-8 with the loss.
The Saints wasted no time establishing control, sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen handled Haley Levine and Grace Magna comfortably at No. 1, 6-2. At No. 2, Elisa Iuri and Ariane Karera edged Mae Kellersman and Bethany Walker in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2). Yvette Karera and Eleanor McDermed rounded out the sweep at No. 3, dispatching Maddy Buck and Marin Montagne 6-0.
St. Lawrence was equally dominant in singles, winning all six courts to complete the shutout. Aksdal-Jansen, Jespersen, Iuri, and Yvette Karera all posted convincing straight-set victories — Aksdal-Jansen beat Levine 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, Jespersen blanked Kellersman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, Iuri defeated Grace Magna 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, and Yvette Karera topped Bethany Walker 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Ariane Karera added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Mia Jacobs at No. 5 to seal the match.
The only extended battle of the afternoon came at No. 6, where Ellie Fritz outlasted Kaitlyn Hardy in a competitive three-set match. After Hardy pushed the second set to a tiebreak and claimed it 7-6 (3), Fritz responded to win the match tiebreak 11-9 and close out a clean sweep for the Saints.
