Baseball Drops Game Three of its Series Versus RIT

Mike Siano, Ethan Harris, and Nolan Widrick all drove in a run apiece, but the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell 14-3 versus RIT on Monday afternoon at Tom Fay Field.

St. Lawrence, who took the series win versus the Tigers, fell to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in Liberty League play, while RIT improved to 9-10 and 3-3 in conference action.

After a scoreless first inning, RIT hung a crooked number in the top of the second, scoring five runs. The Tigers hit four consecutive singles before a double made it 3-0. A two-out triple later in the inning led to a 5-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the second, John Gannon led off with a double down the left field line, and was singled home from second by Harris, who swatted a 0-1 fastball into right field.

The Tigers continued to roll in the top of the third, adding four more runs. They took advantage of two hit batsmen and two walks to make it 9-1.

The Saints chipped away with a pair of runs in the fourth to make it 9-3. Willie Landman led the inning with a single and moved to second on a fielding error. A two-out single from Widrick into right-center field scored the DH and moved Max Cloutier to third. The senior second baseman was brought home by his shortstop as Siano hit an infield single with two outs away.

A two-run home run in the top of the fifth made it 11-3 for the Tigers, and they tacked on three more in the top of the seventh to make it 14-3 as the game ended after seven innings.

Brendan Young got the start on the hill, pitching two innings and striking out a pair. James Morr, Liam Hickey, Boden Driscoll, and Will Nardella combined for the next four innings of work for the Saints. The game was finished off by Owen Gray and Shota Kubota, who took the final inning.

St. Lawrence will be back at Tom Fay Field tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. for a non-conference matchup against SUNY Canton.
