Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Saints Rebound with 16-5 Win at Nazareth

Caroline Hamilton and Phoebe Spaeth scored three goals each to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 win over Nazareth in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.

Hamilton and Spaeth each added an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Read Roy, Ava O'Rourke and Camryn Sipher scored two goals apiece, while Kelsey O'Brien, Ashley Mudd, Cate Rathnam, and Jolie Osborne each scored once. Keira Dodd tallied three assists, while Eliza D'Agostino picked up three ground balls, Osborne won five draws and O'Brien caused two turnovers.

The Saints were firing on all cylinders on Sunday, as they worked to build a 4-1 and eventually 7-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. Both O'Rourke and Spaeth recorded two goals each in the opening frame.

Hamilton scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter. Goals from Osborne and Sipher helped the Saints outscore Nazareth 4-1 in the second to take an 11-3 lead at halftime.

Spaeth netted her third of the game and was followed by a goal from Mudd to give the Saints a 10-goal advantage and a running clock to start the third quarter. Roy and Sipher got in on the scoring action in the third, as SLU shut out Nazareth 4-0 to head into the fourth quarter with a 15-4 lead.

Grace Gardner put one on the board for the Golden Flyers to start the final frame. Nazareth went 2-1 in the fourth quarter but was unable to cut into the deficit any further.

"It was a good team win," said head coach Tom Ryan. "Ruthie was strong in the draw circle. Caroline continues to impress with her relentless hustle and it was good to see her rewarded on the score sheet. Kelsey O'Brien has been great on ground balls all year and was again today."

Gardner led the Golden Flyers with three goals and two assists.

Zoe Froimovitz finished the weekend with three saves for the Saints, while Allie Klestinec made 10 for the Golden Flyers.

SLU led in shots on goal 21-8, ground balls 23-12, draw controls 18-5, and caused turnovers 11-6.

With the win, St. Lawrence improved to 3-3 on the season, while Nazareth fell to 0-7.

The Saints will head home and jump back into league action next weekend, as they host Ithaca on Friday, March 20 and William Smith on Saturday, March 21.
