The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team earned a 74-58 victory over the Union Garnet Chargers on Saturday at Burkman Gymnasium. With the win, the Saints split the regular-season series with Union and locked in the No. 4 seed for the Liberty League tournament, granting them the right to host a first-round playoff game. Union will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed.
Prior to tip-off, the Saints honored seniors
Dan Anderson,
Charlie VonOehsen,
Chris Downs Jr., and
Adam Dudzinski for their contributions to the program.
St. Lawrence opened the contest with back-to-back three-pointers from
Colton Suriano, forcing Union into an early deficit. While the Garnet Chargers briefly took a 19-15 lead midway through the first half, the Saints responded with a sustained run. A three-pointer from Dudzinski pushed the lead to double digits, fueling a 37-22 advantage heading into halftime.
The Saints maintained their offensive consistency in the second half, matching their 37-point first-half total. Dudzinski led the scoring effort with 28 points on 5-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and added a team-high eight rebounds. Anderson contributed 14 points to the win, while VonOehsen added a three-pointer to help extend the margin to as many as 18 points.
Union was led by Jack Plesser, who accounted for 38 of the Garnet Chargers' 58 points. Despite late turnovers as the Saints drained the clock in the final minutes, Union was unable to close the gap.
St. Lawrence (No. 4) will now host No. 5 Ithaca College in the Liberty League quarterfinals on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Tip-off at Burkman Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Although the Saints went 0-2 against the Bombers in the regular season, both losses were decided by just three points.
