Rylan Haslam netted a pair of goals and
Kassidy Lawrence made 11 saves, as the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team rebounded with a 4-0 shutout win over RPI on Saturday afternoon in Troy, N.Y.
With the win, SLU improved to 5-9-0 overall and 3-1-0 in ECAC play, while RPI fell to 2-14-0 and 1-6-0.
The Saints struck early, as
Cheyenne Degeer won the faceoff, and found
Sonia Mehta at the point. Mehta used
Brooke Mulvihill to screen RPI goaltender Reese Keating for the 1-0 lead.
SLU controlled the scoreboard and led 9-1 in shots on goal after the first 20 minutes of action.
St. Lawrence held onto their lead through the second frame and more than doubled their chances on goal, leading 25-9 in shots on net after the second period.
Haslam tacked on an insurance goal for the Saints with 7:24 remaining in the third. As the power play dwindled,
Mae Severn took a shot from the point, Keating made the kick save, but Haslam picked up the short rebound for the 2-0 lead.
Just less than two minutes later,
Kendall Doiron tallied her second goal in as many games. Haslam was looking for her second of the game, the puck was saved by Keating, but ricocheted back out to the left and Doiron hit the one timer to make it 3-0.
Haslam notched her second multi-goal game of the season and her second of the game with 23.8 seconds to play in the third for the 4-0 final.
"Our most complete effort from start to finish this season," said head coach
Chris Wells. "We had great jump and puck pursuit early and the first goal was a big reward for our efforts."
"Kass made a couple real good saves to keep it 1-0 and then we found the net a few more times to finish off the game! Saturday on the road has been pretty good to us and today was no different. Our power play and penalty kill were on point today and made a big difference as well."
Lawrence finished with 11 saves for her second shutout of the season and the fourth of her career, while Keating finished with 35 saves for the Engineers.
The Saints went 1-for-2 on the power play and killed off both of RPI's opportunities. SLU led in shots (65-25) and shots on goal (39-11).
St. Lawrence returns to Appleton Arena and will host Brown and Yale next weekend, November 13-14.
