Murphy Stops Four Shots as Women's Soccer Battles to 2-0 Loss Versus RIT

Junior goalkeeper Reagan Murphy made four saves, but the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 Liberty League contest to RIT on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field in Canton, N.Y.

The Saints fell to 5-5-4 overall and 2-3-1 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers improved to 5-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference action.

St. Lawrence generated an early scoring opportunity in the 13th minute when Lily Murphy's shot struck the left post, narrowly missing what would have been the opening goal of the match.

The Tigers answered with pressure of their own and broke through in the 20th minute.

Valeria Luzio found the back of the net off an assist from Lindsay Ford to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

The Saints continued to search for the equalizer before halftime. Zoe Rogan forced a save from goalkeeper Ashton Anderson, while Chloe Bourque also generated a chance, but RIT carried its one-goal lead into the break.

St. Lawrence increased the pressure in the second half and put four shots on goal after the restart.

Anderson made saves on chances from Bourque, Sidney Reno, and Rogan, helping the Tigers maintain the lead.

Murphy kept the Saints within striking distance with several key saves, including stops on Luzio, Bella Coccio, and Lily Doucette during the final 25 minutes.

With the Saints pushing forward late, RIT added an insurance goal in the 88th minute. Sidona Hackl-Gerenstein scored off an assist from Eli Gonzalez to extend the lead to 2-0.

Rogan put St. Lawrence's final shot on target in the closing seconds, but Anderson made her fifth save of the afternoon to preserve the shutout.

RIT held advantages in shots (22-8), shots on goal (6-5), and corner kicks (10-3).

Murphy finished with four saves, while Anderson stopped all five shots she faced to earn the clean sheet.

St. Lawrence will be back on the pitch next Wednesday, October 21, when the team heads to Geneva, N.Y. to take on William Smith in a 3:30 p.m. match.
