Reagan Murphy made a career-high 10 saves, but the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team fell to No. 9 Vassar, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
The Saints fell to 4-3-4 overall and 1-1-1 in Liberty League play, while the Brewers improved to 6-0-4 overall and 3-0-2 in conference action.
Vassar controlled much of the play in the opening half, generating 16 shots and forcing Murphy into seven saves, but the Saints' goalkeeper and backline kept the match scoreless through 45 minutes.
Murphy made key saves on attempts from Maddie Harmon, Gianna Panarelli, Alice Crowley, Claire Vrahoretis, and Mollie McLaughlin during the opening half as the teams entered the break deadlocked at 0-0.
The Saints nearly broke through in the 34th minute when
Zoe Rogan struck the woodwork, but the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.
Vassar found the breakthrough early in the second half. After Murphy made an initial save, Crowley converted the rebound in the 50th minute off an assist from Elena Valle to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.
Crowley struck again in the 60th minute, finishing a centering pass from Panarelli to double the advantage.
The Brewers added a third goal in the 65th minute when Liv Ivie scored off a rebound after Murphy saved a shot. Sonya Franklin earned the assist.
Vassar completed the scoring in the 75th minute when McLaughlin scored from distance to make it 4-0.
The Saints generated their best opportunities of the second half from
Paige McLaughlin and Rogan, but Vassar goalkeepers Laura Shea and Emily McMahon combined to make two saves and preserve the shutout.
Murphy finished with 10 saves for St. Lawrence, while Vassar held advantages in shots (24-4), shots on goal (14-2), and corner kicks (8-0).
The Saints will continue Liberty League play next week, when the team heads to Clarkson on Tuesday, October 13, to take on the Knights in a 7 p.m. match. Â
