Junior goalkeeper
Zoe Davenport posted three saves on the day for her second clean sheet of the season as the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against No. 24 University of Rochester on Wednesday night at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
St. Lawrence moved to 0-1-2 on the season, while Rochester went to 1-0-1.
Rochester came out of the gates strong in the first few minutes of the contest, but once the Saints sank their teeth into the Yellowjacket formation, they had the better of the chances early.
Madison King-Thurber and
Kaitlyn Barton were the catalysts at the front of the attack, combining for five shots in eight minutes. Both King-Thurber and Barton saw a pair of shots sail wide of the goalkeeper, but Barton was also able to find the frame with a shot that was stopped by the sprawling Sydney Moore.
The Scarlet and Brown kept intercepting passes and created more offense.
Meredith Donahue took her turn at the goal, putting a low shot on the goal, but was turned away.
Davenport was forced to make just one save in the first half, but it was a good one in the 32
nd minute off the foot of Alyssa Doody.
Rochester ratcheted up the pressure in the second half, putting heavy pressure on the back line of St. Lawrence. They saw their first three shots of the half go wide of the goal, while the next two found the waiting arms of Davenport in goal.
After a stretch without shots, the Yellowjackets once again felt desperation and put four more shots on in the final 13 minutes. Davenport made a tremendous save on the first shot, denying Femke Laudy, and watched the last three sail wide, preserving the shutout.
Davenport finished the day, stopping all three shots that came her way, while Moore came up with two stops.
The Scarlet and Brown will return home and begin preparing for the weekend when they host Nazareth at Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday, September 6, at 2:30 p.m.
