The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team sits sixth out of eight teams after the opening day of competition at the Liberty League championships, hosted by RIT.
The Saints received scoring performances in a range of events, highlighted by a strong showing in the heptathlon from
Amelia Berthold, who sits in fourth place after the first day with 2,314 points. Berthold led all competitors in the high jump, clearing 1.46 meters to pick up a key event win in the multi.
Carly Zack contributed a point for St. Lawrence with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 11:52.55, while
Avery Blanchard turned in a solid performance in the 10,000-meter run, placing ninth in 39:37.98. Blanchard's time qualifies her for the AARTFC championships.
In preliminary action,
Caelan McHarney placed eighth in the first round of the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.88, advancing to Saturday's final in the event.
The conference meet concludes Saturday with a full slate of finals across events both on the track and in the field.
