The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team opened competition at the AARTFC Championships with a solid showing on the first day.
In the heptathlon,
Amelia Berthold wrapped up the first day in 13th place with 2,282 points. Her best event of the day came in the high jump, where she placed fifth overall with a clearance of 1.47 meters, helping boost her overall total heading into the final events scheduled for day two.
Carly Zack had a 21st-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, recording a time of 11:54.37.
Avery Blanchard also competed in the 5000-meter run, placing 22nd overall with a time of 19:03.29. She had a strong finish to the race after taking a tumble amid traffic in the race's middle stages, showcasing some grit to cross the line just past the 19-minute mark in the distance affair.
The team returns to action tomorrow for the final day of regional competition.
