St. Lawrence University softball pitcher
Marleigh Monroe tossed a shutout,
Vivian Johnson smacked four hits over two games, and the Saints split their third consecutive double header Monday afternoon. They fell to Oswego State 2-1 in game one, before downing the Lakers 8-0 in the second game of the twin bill.
The Saints' overall record moves to 9-7 with the split of the non-conference tilt. It was the fourth consecutive time that the Saints dropped their first game of the day, then turned around and blew out their opponent via the NCAA's eight-run rule.

Game 1: Oswego State 2, St. Lawrence 1
The first runs of the game came right off the hop in the top of the first inning. Kira Wright drew a lead-off walk and ended up on second after a passed ball. Mattison Phinney then singled and advanced Wright to third, and she scored on a throwing error to make it 1-0 Lakers. The next batter singled and drove Phinney around to make it 2-0.
Vivian Johnson doubled in the bottom of the first inning, but the Saints couldn't drive her in and ended the opening inning down by two. That was the last Saints hit until the sixth inning, as Oswego starting pitcher Maria Lutz worked through the Saints, ultimately ending her outing allowing just four hits and one earned run over seven innings pitched.
St. Lawrence's lone run came in the seventh.
Marina Juan singled to lead the inning off, then she was eventually driven home with a double by
Sofia Camillieri. Her first extra-base hit of 2025 made it 2-1, and that's how the game ended.
Izzy Melanson pitched the first three innings for St. Lawrence, taking the loss and moving to a record of 3-2. She allowed two runs (zero earned) on five hits, walking one and striking out three. It was the second straight outing Melanson hasn't allowed an earned run.

Game 2: Oswego State 0, St. Lawrence 8 (5 Inn.)
After a scoreless opening inning, it was St. Lawrence who opened the scoring in the second game of the doubleheader. After
Madison Connelly reached with a knock, Saints head coach
Rosie Phillips went to the bench and subbed
Layne Fritz in on the basepaths. Then,
Marina Juan roped a double over the head of the Oswego centerfielder, bringing Fritz around from first.
The game remained tight into the later stages, with the Saints clinging to their 1-0 lead. However, they never had to worry about any major threats due to Monroe's performance in the circle. The first-year right-hander set down the first 14 batters of the game before allowing her first baserunner in the fifth inning.
Despite allowing a runner, Monroe would keep the Lakers off the scoreboard until the sixth. That was when the Saints ended the game via the run rule.
First, they plated five runners in the fifth inning.
Emily Wendt reached base on a fielding error, then
Allison Kloft singled to put two runners on with one out. That brought
Madison Connelly up to the plate, and she painted a liner down the left field line. Both Wendt and Kloft scored to make it 3-0 St. Lawrence – the first runs scored since the second inning. The Saints would plate three more runs after Connelly busted it open, making it 6-0 going into the sixth with Monroe and Juan tacking on additional RBIs.
St. Lawrence needed two runs to trigger the run rule, and they got them in the sixth. Wendt and Johnson reached base again to kick off the inning for Kloft's at-bat. Kloft then squared up a pitch and drilled a line drive into left field to score Wendt from third. After Kloft broke for second, the Lakers' catcher tried to catch Kloft on the basepaths, and Johnson broke for home and stole it to end the game with an 8-0 lead.
Eight Saints had hits in the game. Kloft led the way in this one, going 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI. Johnson and Monroe each had two hits, with Monroe adding an RBI as well. Connelly and Juan led the way with two RBIs each.
Johnson also added two stolen bases, and both Wendt and
Caelen Jahnle had stolen bases of their own. Wendt's seven stolen bases leads the team.
