First-year
Ethan Harris drove in three runs on the day, but the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell in a high-scoring affair, 26-13, at Plattsburgh State on Wednesday evening.
St. Lawrence fell to 8-17, while the Cardinals improved to 8-14.
After a slow top of the first, Plattsburgh State took advantage of seven walks, an error, and a double to power a seven-run inning. Harris doubled a run home in the top of the second, and
Owen McClintock knocked in a run on a groundout to make it a 7-2 game.
Plattsburgh tagged on four more in the bottom of the second, followed by three runs for the Saints in the third. A
Timothy Connor single,
John Gannon hit by a pitch, and a
Willie Landman walk set up
Daniel Verrastro, who brought two runs across with a single to right field. Gabel Albertson drove the other run in the next at bat, making the score 11-5.
St. Lawrence would bring the score to within three runs in the top of the fourth with a big inning. Gannon doubled home a pair of runs, while Landman singled his teammate home, making the game 11-8.
However, the Cardinals' bats stayed hot as they took a 16-8 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Siano brought in a run in the fifth, but Plattsburgh ballooned the score to 18-9 after five.
After seeing the Cardinals bring the score to 22-9, St. Lawrence got two more RBI from Harris, who singled
Nolan Widrick and
Jack Growney home. Widrick and
Finn Parker each provided RBI singles in the top of the ninth, but the final score would rest at 26-13.
St. Lawrence will head home where they will play host to a three-game series against Hobart College, starting with game one on Friday at 3 p.m.
