The Saints took the doubles round and won three of the six singles matches as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team defeated Union 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.
St. Lawrence improved to 8-11 overall with the win and 2-4 in Liberty League play, while the Garnet Chargers fell to 5-10 and 1-3 in league play.
In doubles, the Scarlet and Brown took wins at one and two to secure the first point. At one,
Edvin Strandberg and
John Hill-Edgar teamed up to win 6-2 over Ben Jacobs and Jesus Alberto, while
Broderick Pinto and
Jake David secured a 6-4 win at two versus Vivaan Gupta and Austin Gregory.
In singles, the Saints claimed the three odd-numbered wins, while Union took the evens.
Strandberg took on David Wang in the one spot and cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win. His doubles partner, Hill-Edgar, also picked up a win at three against Jacobs in a far closer match. The senior dropped the first set 6-4 but came back with 6-2 and 7-6 (6-4) set wins to take the point.
The final win belonged to
Armaan Walia, who took on Arhan Gupta at number five and won 6-2, 6-0.
St. Lawrence will be back at home next weekend on April 19 when the team hosts RPI in their final home match of the season.
