Baseball Drops Game Three at RIT

Brett Federico, Willie Landman, and Sean Desjardins each recorded hits, but the St. Lawrence University baseball team dropped their final game of the weekend series to the RIT Tigers 16-0 Saturday at Doug May Field.

The Saints drop two of three to the Tigers on the road trip and will head back to Canton with a 5-12 overall record and a 1-5 mark in conference play. The Tigers improve to 14-5 and an even 3-3 in the Liberty League.

The Tigers jumped out ahead with four runs in the first inning off of three hits, sending nine batters to the plate to get on the tab of starter Liam Hickey early. In the second inning, RIT got two runners on with a hit by pitch and a walk, chasing Hickey.

Brenden O'Neil came on in relief, and after a walk to load the bases with one out, the Southpaw got the next two out with a strikeout and a weak foul popup to third, stranding three runners in the third to keep the game at 4-0.

The Tigers added to their lead in the third by plating seven more runs and then scored two more times in the fourth to get ahead 13-0.

Offensively, St. Lawrence couldn't get the bats going like they did in their games yesterday. Federico started the second with a single and a stolen base but was left at second after three straight outs. Desjardins doubled in the third, and Landman singled in the fourth, but the Saints couldn't get these runners home either.

St. Lawrence wasn't able to manage any more hits the rest of the game, and after a three-up three-down top of the seventh, the Tigers ended the game prematurely, leading 16-0.

Next up:

The Saints will return home for their home opener at Tom Fay Field. The Scarlet and Brown will play a three-game series against the Rochester Yellow Jackets with one game on Friday, April 4, and a doubleheader the following day.
